THE Palio horse race
The “Palio” horse race is the festival of the Sienese, held for centuries in the Piazza del Campo (main square). The city is divided into 17 districts, all named after animals. The horse race takes place twice a year and due to the limited space, only 10 districts out of 17 run each race. This itinerary takes us through the most secluded streets where we find the seats of the “contrade” or “districts” normally closed to the public, their oratories, their museum, their stable, their headquarters and their baptismal font. A visit to these places where the organization of the most important annual event to both Siena and its people take place will help one to understand the incredible fascination of this tradition and why it is not just a race. Also, if you would like to attend the Palio which is held on July 2nd and August 16th, it is possible for me to arrange an unforgettable experience with the help of my contacts. Therefore, you’ll have the chance to attend a unique event and treasure special memories for ever.
